In 2010, Wahl+Case set out to fix recruitment.

 


Along the way, we found our true calling was to fix the problems of work: recruitment, engagement and retention.

As a group, we continue to launch initiatives and tech solutions under the unified goal of removing the friction between companies and talent, between work and our lives.

Casey Wahl, Founder & CEO

Casey wants to change recruitment. He’s deeply passionate about the issue, and immensely frustrated with the reputation of the recruitment industry. Little innovation has happened in recruitment agencies over the last decades, with the industry often self-inflicting its negative perception by the plethora of indistinguishable recruiters with short-term outlooks. Casey is out to change all that. Globally. Analog (agency recruitment – Wahl+Case) and digitally (Justa, Attuned). It’s a big problem, worth a lifetime of work. Fumiyo Yoshida, CFO

Fumiyo Yoshida leads the financial front of our charge into HR Tech. She is an expert in equity finance, acquisition and value-up among others. An alumni of Waseda University, Fumiyo holds a B.A. in Commerce and M.A. in Public Management. She started her professional career at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, Japan and later worked at Mizuho Capital Partners Co., Ltd., Japan, where more than half of its investee companies achieved IPOs -- making it the best track record in the country.

Yo Shibata, Outside Board Director

Yo Shibata is a three-time-acquired serial entrepreneur. His most recent service Smapo, later acquired by Rakuten, provides users with loyalty points as they enter participating stores by pairing a mobile application with his proprietary ultrasonic based micro-location technology. Prior to startups, he worked for McKinsey & Company as a consultant. In 2016, he co-founded an angel investment fund, Tokyo Founders Fund, with other successful young entrepreneurs in Japan.

 

Mattias Hallberg, CTO & Head of Product, Attuned Business Unit

Mattias Hallberg leads both Attuned product and the IT organization, which are driving the company’s ongoing transformation to HR Tech, and works closely with peer organizations to advance business strategy and technology initiatives. He started his professional career in Sweden working for a startup in automotive electronics. He later found his way back to university, which led to a research position at Tokyo University. After turning back to the public sector, Mattias took up IT management positions in both IT service delivery and software development. Before joining Wahl+Case, he held a position at Rakuten, where he delivered six e-Commerce websites and headed a department with over 100 staff.。

Oleg Koval, Head of Justa

Oleg leads our Justa business helping Japan StartUps grow and innovate by hiring the best talent. Prior to joining Wahl+Case Oleg worked for Google in Dublin, Ireland as business transformation manager for EMEA advertising business, developing new ad products, payment solutions and internal processes to serve customers in a more efficient way. Ever since he founded his first startup in college, he has been passionate about people analytics and company culture. Combining the best practices from Google, his startup experience and drive for innovation Oleg aims to convey his vision through Justa and help startups in Japan grow their teams and grow their businesses.

Chad Lafferty, Managing Director

Chad Lafferty leads the growth of our recruitment practice, spanning our biggest markets including consumer technology, enterprise IT, retail, consumer and engineering. Prior to Wahl+Case, Chad was Associate Director for a global recruitment firm where he led three high-performing teams for the Japan business. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and holds a degree in Journalism.

Woody Deguchi, Executive Vice President, San Francisco

Woody Deguchi leads our San Francisco office. His dual relationship to both Japan and the U.S. brings exceptional value to his management style as well as overall international experience. Woody’s professional career started at Sony with product marketing. He later co-founded a consumer electronics device startup in 2000. The product he launched--a “bookmark” for music, was an idea that was way ahead of its time--before iTunes and the iPod. He plays guitar and was also Founder and President of the Musicians' Guild at Pomona College--where he studied after receiving a full year scholarship from Doshisha University. With Woody’s eyes on the future, he aims to grow Wahl+Case business to even higher heights.

Justa goes live, quickly becoming a pillar of the Japanese startup community


2016
