CEO & Founder
Casey wants to change recruitment. He’s deeply passionate about the issue, and immensely frustrated with the reputation of the recruitment industry. Little innovation has happened in recruitment agencies over the last decades, with the industry often self-inflicting its negative perception by the plethora of indistinguishable recruiters with short-term outlooks. Casey is out to change all that. Globally. Analog (agency recruitment – Wahl and Case) and digitally (Justa, Attuned). It’s a big problem, worth a lifetime of work. Casey is a long-term resident of Japan with fluent Japanese, and somehow got an Executive MBA from IE Business School.
Tomoyuki ensures that the company can meet its lofty goals for growth by leading the finance, accounting, risk, and compliance functions. His experience as a consultant and salesperson enables Tomoyuki to balance the needs of the front and back offices, thus developping Wahl and Case offensively, not just defensively. Prior to joining Wahl and Case, Tomoyuki ran his own accounting firm, while also having experience within the Big 4 and with a major city bank. He is a Japanese CPA, holds a BA from Waseda University and earned an Executive MBA from IE Business School.
VP, Business Development and Technology Enablement
Romen Barua leads our strategic global business development and marketing activities across all business units including Japan, San Francisco and helps to enable our technology platforms Attuned & Justa into our core business. Prior to Wahl and Case, Romen was a founding member of the contract staffing and services division at a top global recruitment firm where he led the highest performing team for the Japan business at the time. Romen graduated with 1st class honors from the University of Leeds, in which time he also established a successful online merchant operation.
Mattias Hallberg is leading the IT organization, which is driving the company’s ongoing transformation to HR Tech, and working closely with peer organizations to advance business strategy and technology initiatives. He started his professional career in Sweden working for a startup in automotive electronics. He later found his way back to university, which led to a research position at Tokyo University. After turning back to the public sector, Mattias took up IT management positions in both IT service delivery and software development. Before joining Wahl and Case, he held a position at Rakuten, where he delivered six e-Commerce websites and headed a department with over 100 staff.
Chad Lafferty leads the growth of our Japan-based recruitment practice, spanning our biggest markets including consumer technology, enterprise IT, retail, consumer and engineering. Prior to Wahl and Case, Chad was Associate Director for a global recruitment firm where he led three high-performing teams for the Japan business. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and holds a degree in Journalism.
Outside Board Director
Yo Shibata is a three-time-acquired serial entrepreneur. His most recent service Smapo, later acquired by Rakuten, provides users with loyalty points as they enter participating stores by pairing a mobile application with his proprietary ultrasonic based micro-location technology. Prior to startups, he worked for McKinsey & Company as a consultant. In 2016, he co-founded an angel investment fund, Tokyo Founders Fund, with other successful young entrepreneurs in Japan.
Director, San Francisco
Scott Tullis heads our San Francisco office and aims to consistently exceed our customers’ expectations. With many years recruitment experience in Tokyo, Scott is confident that his knowledge of the high level of service required in Japan will enable his team to provide an exceptional level of customer service in the US. Having had negative experiences with recruiters previously as an auditor, Scott is passionate about creating value and being a strong business partner rather than being another transactional recruitment agency. Raised in the Bay Area, Scott graduated with Honors from UC Santa Barbara, majoring in Business Economics and holds a US CPA license.

Daniel Bodonyi leads our predictive analytics SaaS business Attuned, focused on helping companies to screen, motivate and retain top talent who fit and enrich their culture. A former classical pianist, Shakespeare scholar, successful entrepreneur and analyst for top global strategy consulting firm L.E.K. as well as the UN, Daniel’s mission is to help our clients humanize the workplace using rigorously data-driven and scientifically proven approaches.
